Mémoire d’Afrique — Ref. 26
Hornbill mask — Dan, Côte d’Ivoire — African tribal art — Ref. 26
Description
Dan mask originating from Côte d’Ivoire or Liberia, made of carved wood and enhanced with a conical reinforced-cloth headdress adorned with cowries symbolising wealth and spirituality. The face presents typical features: almond-shaped eyes, a slightly open mouth and a finely carved nose. A collar of dried plant fibres surrounds the base, adding visual dynamism during ritual dances. The dark, slightly worn patina reveals traces of prolonged use, giving this piece remarkable authenticity. Repairs and minor wear marks testify to its age and active role in Dan spiritual ceremonies.
