Mémoire d’Afrique — Ref. 31
Dan Deangle mask — Dan, Côte d’Ivoire — African tribal art — Ref. 31
Description
This wooden mask, characteristic of the Dan, embodies feminine beauty and serenity. With its softened features, half-closed eyes and slightly open lips, it evokes benevolence and spirituality. The cloth roll decorated with cowries symbolises wealth and the link with spirits. Used during ceremonial dances, it represented idealised female figures, playing a role in social and spiritual rituals to bring protection and harmony to the community. The natural patina and wear marks confirm its authenticity and prolonged use. A piece rich in symbolism and tradition.
