Traditional stool — Guinea — African tribal art — Ref. 321

Description
Old traditional stool originating from Guinea, carved from a single block of wood from a monoxyle piece, characteristic of the utilitarian art of the forest peoples of West Africa. An object of daily life, this type of stool was used as a personal seat by elders or chiefs, and retained strong symbolic value in circles of authority or counsel. Its low form, four stocky, slightly flared legs and curved seat suggest intensive and ancient use, with a beautiful patina of use. The wood is light, hard and shows a visible crack crossing part of the seat, without altering the stability of the piece. Wear from time, marks of use and natural cracking attest to its authenticity.
